Who we are

The Compassion Center has been a cornerstone of Southeast Baltimore for over 60 years, originally established by The Lutheran Mission Society.

Today, our efforts are a cooperation of Haven City Church, The Lutheran Mission Society, Somebody Cares Baltimore, Helping Up Mission and the local community.

We are committed to providing essential support through high-quality groceries and household items, nurturing a network of care that fosters dignity and self-sufficiency.

2024 Impact

Food Distributed

In 2024 The Compassion Center distributed approximately $9,000,000 in food to Baltimore City Residents

Households Served

The Compassion Center provided groceries to 29,120 households in 2024.

Senior Program

We have a program specifically designed to care for seniors and those on disability. In 2024 that program had 250 individuals enrolled.

What’s up with the cart?

Many of our clients come to get food with a rolling cart. It represents the ethos of our community.
